The fifth of May in lunar month is the Dragon Boat Festival, which is a traditional folk festival of China.
This Festival inherited by chinese people over 2,000 years. Due to its vast geographical area, numerous nationalities, and many legends, it produced not only many different festival names, but also different customs everywhere. The main activities are hanging calamus and Artemisia argyi in the top corner of the gate, racing dragon boat, wiping realgar wine on the body of children, drinking realgar wine, eating five poisonous cakes, salted eggs and Zongzi (a pyramid-shaped dumpling made of glutinous rice wrapped in bamboo or reed leaves). Some activities, such as dragon boat racing, have achieved new developments, breaking through time and geographical boundaries and becoming international sports events.
There are many arguments about the origin of the Dragon Boat Festival, such as: commemorating Qu Yuan, commemorating Wu Zixu, commemorating Cao E. According to Wen Yiduo's "Dragon Boat Exam" and "The Dragon Boat Festival History Education", which listed more than a hundred ancient records and expert archaeological research shows that the origin of the Dragon Boat Festival is a festival of totem sacrifices held by Wu and Yue peoples in the ancient South of China, earlier than Qu Yuan. However, Qu Yuan’s patriotism poetry have been deeply rooted in the hearts of the people for thousands of years, therefore, people celebrate this Festival by racing boat and eating Zongzi to commemorate the theory of Qu Yuan.
With the coming of Dragon Boat Festival, we wish you enjoy a nice holiday.
